TIFT COUNTY CANNING PLANT COVID-19 GUIDELINES

for everyone during the canning process.
Means of Operation: APPOINTMENT ONLY
(No walk-up customers will be accepted, so please call ahead.)
Dates of Operation: June 1, 2020 - July 9, 2020
Days of Operation: Mondays - Thursdays
Hours of Appointments: 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Services Available: Blanching, Canning (cans and jars), Juicing, and Corn Creaming
(Please note that student volunteers will not be available during this time.)
(Shelling will not be available.)
- Appointments will be limited to four individuals per group during available time slots. Children under 10 not permitted. Children 10 and over are counted as a member of the group. All patrons must assist with the canning/freezing process. Some areas of the facility will be off limits.
- Appointments are timed for specific amounts of produce and the estimated time it takes for processing. Do not bring more produce than declared for the appointment. Time limits are set and cannot be extended. Make sure that all members of the group arrive at the same time, and all produce is ready for processing. (Please let us know as early as possible if an appointment should be cancelled.)
- With exception of tomatoes, produce must be ready for processing prior to arrival for appointment. Shuck and silk corn, shell peas, snap beans, wash jars, etc, prior to arrival.
- Upon arrival, every person within the group must check in at the front of the facility, have their temperature taken, and sign a waiver prior to entering the canning facility.
- Anyone with a temperature above 100.4°F, cough, shortness of breath, feeling ill, or knowingly been exposed to the COVID-19 virus should NOT come to the canning plant.
- Social distancing will be required inside the canning plant. Please follow the instructions given by the Agricultural Education teachers.
- Masks and gloves are highly suggested.
- Hand sanitizer, soap and disposable towels will be provided.
- Each patron must provide their own supplies, including knives, salt/spices, freezer bags, etc. These items will NOT be provided by the canning plant. Make sure that all supplies are in your possession, because any person within the group that leaves the premises will not be allowed to reenter.
- Prior to departure, each group will be required to completely clean their area, tables, equipment used and be inspected by an Agricultural Education teacher.
To acquire an appointment, call 229-387-2480. Make appointments in advance to ensure a time. No walk-up customers will be accepted.
CAN/JAR PICK UP:
Patrons should call 229-387-2480 prior to coming to the canning plant. Upon arrival, every person within the group must check in at the front of the facility, have their temperature taken, and sign a waiver prior to pulling to the back of the canning facility for pickup. Remain with your vehicle until an Agricultural Education teacher directs you. Make sure to bring buckets or boxes to load out cans/jars. These will not be provided or housed at the facility.
