Tift County Schools has recently received correspondence from the Georgia Department of Education that has altered the guidelines for Georgia Milestones Testing. For this year only, due to Covid concerns, students that have participated in online learning will not be required to take Georgia Milestones Tests. For Tift County Schools, this would apply to all students since everyone has participated in online learning at some point this school year.
The Georgia Department of Education has also stated that Milestones testing will still be required to be administered by schools, but the results will not be used in a negative way for students, schools, or the school system as a whole. To be clear, test results should not and will not be the lone determining factor for promotion/retention of a student.
With that being said, we feel this is a great opportunity for our system to receive valuable data that will help us better support our students moving forward. Our students, teachers, and principals have worked very hard to maintain a strong learning environment through the toughest of situations over the last two school terms. We are asking all students to take the Milestones assessments so we can use the information to guide our instructional practices. If you wish for your child to “opt out” of the Spring assessment for this year only, please complete and submit the Opt-Out form located in the Documents section of your Infinite Campus Parent Portal account. This needs to be completed by the end of the day on Monday, March 15th.
